Wild West Days in Golden, Colorado

It was Wild West Days at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden - so we took Tyler to visit the festival because she really enjoys history.
Tyler enjoyed going into all the old vintage engines and railroad cars at the museum.

Because it was Wild West Days - we found all sorts of folks dressed in character in their historical clothing. Here's Annie Oakley with all her sharp-shooter medals.

Wyatt Earp and his Josephine were there as well - talking about their lives during those wild west days.

And there were lots of non-famous folks dressed in the clothing of the times.

And they were happy to talk about their lives too.

We found it funny that a young 'Buffalo Bill Cody' and his friend would be checking their iPhones.

Wyatt Earp told Tyler all about that famous gunfight at the OK Corral.

There were even lots of entertainers playing instruments that were played during the western days.

My favorite was the elder Buffalo Bill - he sure looked like the real thing with wonderful hand made clothing.
As we walked through the outdoor museum each locomotive had great information boards telling you all about the engines or cars you were seeing.
Being able to climb right up onto and into the railroad cars were Tyler's favorite - each one was different inside.

Even with her crutches - Cheryl enjoyed doing the same - this one had beautiful velvet seats and so many period details.

This was the back end of a mail car where they tossed the mail off the back.
While inside, they sorted and bagged the mail for each town.

The 'Caboose' was also very interesting.

Inside the caboose was very small and usually was for the train employees for that train - they slept in the caboose and cooked their food and ate there.
All the vintage cars, caboose and engines were kept in wonderful condition.

This was the biggest and more modern train that was at the museum.

And this was the oldest and one of the first engines.
They had train rides for every 20min - so Tyler enjoyed it so much we rode the train twice - on our 2nd ride Annie Oakley came on board. (to Cheryl's left)

Suddenly there was lots of 'commotion' both inside the train and outside the train (see characters rear left).

We looked out our train window and saw this !!
Our train was being "Robbed"!!!!
They came on board and harassed the passengers and stole purses & wallets and of course stole the mail bags of money going to the banks.

Suddenly Doc Holiday, Wyatt Earp and the Earp brothers came and had a big shoot-out with all the robbers.

In no time at all - the bad guys were shot and the day was saved....

Later during the morning - they had a sharp-shooter contest - we were rooting for Annie Oakley - but she got eliminated....
The best shooters were the young Buffalo Bill Cody & Doc Holiday.

After all that excitement - Tyler decided she would like to have her face painted.
Since she enjoys playing softball - she had a baseball painted on her cheek.

After a fun day - we headed home to show off the new face painting.
