Blanche & Lucy visit the Mexican Coastline

Since we had never been to the Mexican coastline - we decided to gather a few friends and the pups and take a long weekend trip down to Rocky Point in Puerto Penasco on the Sea of Cortez.

We left Apache Junction with 3 Campers - 6 gals,  Cathy, me, Jeanne, Jakota, Karen & Cheryl & 3 dogs - Blanche, Lucy and Jakota's dog Lucy (yes that got confusing at times).

Our first stop was in Ajo, AZ - about 3hrs south.

Ajo is a cute little border town just a bit south west of Tuscon with a wonderful Spanish influence.

We stopped here for lunch at the Oasis Cafe - Blanche & Lucy were treated to fresh water and their own stools

After lunch we walked around the beautiful Plaza with lots of shops and galleries and stopped to photograph the beautiful Mission style church.
We decided to spend the night at Organ Pipe National Park where we would meet a couple more gals that were coming from another area so that we could all cross the Mexican Border together.  Here we are standing in front of the beautiful Organ Pipe cactus at the Visitor's Center.

Organ Pipe has a great collection of blooming cactus and lots of desert blooms - a bonus for us photographers. This is the first time I saw the Hanging Cholla cactus in bloom.

This is an Organ Pipe Cactus a rare site - except in this park as it's the only place in the United States where it grows
As we walked the dogs at Sunset we enjoyed the beauty of the desert.
This is the bloom on the tip of the Ocotillo. The Ocotillo Cactus (Cheryl's Favorite) is this long spiny cactus with bright orange flowers at it's tips.
Blanche enjoys the Ocotillo cactus. As you can see it's very tall.

This Organ Pipe Cactus is about 15ft tall.

As the sun set - we tucked ourselves between Jumping Cholla cactus and tall Saguaros.
Here is another Cholla bloom.

As you can see our 'good sized' RV is dwarfed by the large Saguaro.

As we approached the Mexican Border, there were signs in both english and spanish telling us what to declare.

This is the Mexican Border - the only part of the trip that made us nervous.
This is a small bit of the 'Border Fencing' that separates the US from Mexico.

Once we crossed the border it was another hour drive to Rocky Point...
As we neared our RV park we passed residential areas.
As beautiful as these homes are - there were just as many - right next door that were shacks.
Many of these Pina Colada Stands dotted the streets.
As we drove along we even saw this 'Mobile' Pina Colada Truck...

Driving along the roads went slowly through the town - most roads are dirt.

These are condos/townhomes - some occupied some still for sale...

Finally in the distance we could see our Resort.

And so we arrived at Playa Bonita (Pretty Beach)
Each of our sites had full water, electric & sewerage hookups - close to the bath house and showers.
As soon as we set up - Jakota made tortillas for all of us.

Then we all ran down to the ocean to get our paws in the sand and surf...

Blanche wasted no time in getting into the water and my toes felt great in the cool water and warm sand.
Right across from our area were lots of Condos that many Americans bought for investment or as a get-away spot.
Also across from us was the "Old Port" of Rocky Point.

Some of the campers had front row locations that were right behind the wall on the beach.

Being able to view the ocean all the time satisfied me.

As the sun went down we watched from our chairs at our campsite.

This is the kind of sunset we watched every evening.
