The Arvada Vintage Car Show

Last weekend we enjoyed tooling around at the Vintage Auto Show here in Arvada.  Yes Cheryl was still on her crutches - but she enjoyed hobbling around anyway.
Most of the cars were painted bright colors.

I really liked this old Cab best of all.

This vintage Nash was Cheryl's favorite.

The emblem & the hood ornament were her favorite.
A side view of the Nash.

This vintage Delivery Truck reminded me of my dad's which I rode in every Friday to deliver groceries from the little market we owned.

And the Model-T's with jumper seats reminded me of my grandfather's car.

Check out these next few colorful autos.

We owned a black Chevy Belair just like this one.

This was also one of my favorites.

Sand in the City Festival

One of this summer's highlights in Arvada was the Sand in the City Festival.
Teams from various Arvada Businesses created beautiful sand sculptures.

This one of 'King Sooper' was built by the employees of the local Supermarket - King Soopers.

This sculpture of a vintage auto was built buy the APEX Center which was sponsoring a big Vintage Car Show this weekend.

Another team created the popular 'Minions' from the movie 'Despicable Me'.
On the first day of the 2-day festival I volunteered in the Beer Garden pouring beer for the Arvada Beer Company.
The owners of Odyssey Beerwerks were also pouring beer in our Beer Garden.

The free entertainment was great - several bands played - blues & texas rock.

The kids had the most fun in the big Sanboxes that were set up for kids to build their own sculptures.
We brought Denise, Gary and the kids on the 2nd day - Ethan liked the sandbox better than the rides they had there.

He built lots of sculptures of sand pails.

Of course they had lots of rides for kids.

Tyler enjoyed the rides most of all.
She bounced her way down this slide several times.

Her favorite ride was this climbing wall..

She climbed up quickly and rapelled down fast.

Fishing & Swimming with the grandkids and friends

Tyler has been asking about fishing for quite a while - so when our friends Dorie and Barb invited us to join them and Grace & Olivia fishing we agreed.

Barb and the girls checked out the waterfront area with Barb to see if this was a good location.
Dorie and Olivia bring their poles to the waterfront to set up their spot.

Since this was Tyler's first fishing trip - Dorie was kind enough to give her a few casting lessons in the field.

Then we went down to the waterfront to try casting.
Tyler liked putting the bait on the hook herself.

The bait was salmon eggs so that wasn't too bad to handle.

Then with Barb's guidance - Tyler started to cast the bait.

it took a few times getting it into the trees to find the right 'feel' for it.
Barb was happy to untangle Tyler's line when she did 'catch' a branch.
Tyler was very good at casting the line - got it far and reeled the line in well.

Grace & Tyler taking turns handling the pole.

After a morning of fishing we went back to the girls' campsite to enjoy the campground - Dakota Ridge RV Park - which we had camped at before.

Tyler, Grace & Olivia enjoyed climbing the 'mountain' at this campground.

All enjoyed a snack after hiking and before jumping into the pool.
The 3 girls got along great - they were like 3 mermaids in the pool.
They played and jumped and swam in the pool for a couple of hours.

Grace & Tyler enjoyed their time together that day.
At the end of the day we all enjoyed a great picnic - and know we'll do this again soon.
