Blanche & I stayed at the Million Star RV Resort

These last 2 weeks we stayed at the Million Star RV Resort in Canon City, Colorado - better known as - Dory's place.

Here Blanche & I are greeted by our friend Dory, and Pat & Cindy who were also visiting this summer.

 

I backed the camper into the last spot - and as you can see we faced the beautiful hillside to the east and lots and lots of open space.

Our little camper was dwarfed by Pat & Cindy's huge 5th wheel.

All the RVs were parked in back of the house and barn on the backside of Dory's beautiful yard.

We could hear the trickle of the water in the 'Teddy Bear Fountain' whenever we walked through the yard.

Blanche & Lucy enjoyed the shade of the deck and the cool slate on their bellies on the stone deck.

Once I was settled in at Dory's  Million Star Resort, I brought Cheryl and Lucy to Denver airport to fly back east ahead of Blanche & I.

Lucy is not too sure of this flying thing... but I was told later that she did great on the plane - Blanche sure misses her little sister.  And we can't wait to see them both soon in MA.

After Lucy & Cheryl left for New England Blanche & I settled into life in Canon City.  Every day Blanche & I walked to the Alpaca farm.

I'm not sure who was more curious to sniff each other - the Alpacas, or Blanche - but they were so cute and gentle with each other.

This is where I came a few times to get on the internet to check emails.

Dory & I had the BEST Tomato Bisque soup ever here at Michael's on Main in downtown Canon City.  Michael's also has a great Art Gallery on the 2nd floor with some pretty amazing art, furniture and jewelery on display and for sale.

Cindy and Pat helped Dory with some renovations around the Million Star Resort.... they worked harder than Two Ever Ready Bunnies.

Pat & Cindy never stopped - here they are helping Barb & I load some Deck Furniture that I bought for my daughter's new house onto the truck.

Pat & Cindy were so sweet to help me drive the furniture all the way from Canon City to Highland's Ranch to deliver the furniture for Denise's new house.  Here Denise assembles the cushions while the kids enjoy the new seating - all ready for their big housewarming party coming up.

Blanche enjoyed sitting on a bench every day looking out at the bunnies.

After staying for 2 weeks - I said goodbye to our hostess, Dory, as well as Pat, Barb & Cindy.

Dory was good enough to let me keep the RV on her property while Blanche & I would fly off the New England till the end of Sept to meet up with Lucy & Cheryl.  So here Blanche & I said goodbye to the RV and Dory.....

The many wonderful little towns in Colorado that we visited

There is so much to see in Colorado and so many little towns to visit.  We didn't have time to visit half the places that we wanted to see because of the many distractions we ran into this summer... all the more reason to return often... But here are a collection of photos from some of the places we visited...

This beautiful sculpture is at the Old Town Littleton Library.... One of our favorite little towns that remind us of where we lived in Newburyport (without the ocean of course)...

Lots of great restaurants in Old Town with great tasty beverages.

Another little town we enjoyed was Parker - here's a closeup of one of the sculptures that they have in the park in the center of town.

This is the entire sculpture - which has art on all 4 sides depicting the history of Parker and it's early inhabitants.

This plaque was on the first house built in Parker - called the 20mile house - it was built on the Smokey Hill Trail and from this point it was 20 miles to Denver.  The trail was dotted with unmarked graves of the pioneers that died at the hands of the Indian attacks on this trail.  The area was at the junction of Smokey Hill and Sante Fe Stage Lines.

This plaque was beside the sculpture of Dr. Heath below which was Parker's first Doctor who made house calls right up untill he died....I just love that.

Here is the sculpture of Dr Heath and his young patient - I am told it is a very good likeness of both.

Blanche & Lucy loved the little town of Parker - there are lots of beautiful bronze sculptures in town and lots of great shops and restaurants too.

You have to love the name of this salon... says it all ....

My grandaughter Tyler and I love these little Pottery shops where you create and paint your own pottery - my favorite "functional art"...

Another town we absolutely fell in love with and would move here in a heartbeat if the right house came along... is Arvada - this old water tower in the distance can be seen from anywhere in town and is a landmark for all the new construction that is going on here.

We had a great lunch here at Udi's Pizza Cafe Bar where they welcomed Blanche and Lucy (another reason we loved Arvada).

We spent one very hot Sunday at the Cherry Creek Art Festival - where they had lots of food and drink as well as art - here we tasted samples of Adams Peanut Butter - all natural and yummy!

I will say that Cherry Creek had the most unusual and beautiful - and pricey - art of all the art festivals that we have attended....

One entire block was dedicated to outdoor eating booths - and they all looked great - these drumsticks were the biggest we've seen.

And on a hot day - there is nothing like a free tasting of cold Heineken samples

One day we spent hiking with our friend Annie at Waterton Canyon - just down the street from where we were camping at Chatfield State Park.

This is a beautiful area to hike in with lots of wildlife and a great stream that we hiked alongside of.

Here are all the activities that you can do here at Waterton - hike; bike (which we saw a few bicyclists some with kids in tow); horseback riding; and fishing.

And this one too... happily we didn't see either...

Blanche & Lucy visit Golden Colorado

As you drive into Golden you are greeted with this sign welcoming you to Golden - land of Buffalo Bill.

 So Blanche & Lucy went camping here in Golden Colorado for 2 weeks this summer.

Here's the welcome sign in the downtown section of Golden - a charming little downtown with lots of shops and restaurants.

Tyler came camping with us on the weekends while we were there - here she enjoys a tasty Black Bean Burito.

Blanche & Lucy enjoyed having Tyler camping with them.

Tyler enjoyed the pool here at the campground everyday.... she's quite the little fish.

Dakota Ridge Campground here in Golden is a great campground for kids because the pool is not too deep and there is a nice playground and more.

 We decided to take a ride up to see The Buffalo Bill Museum. The Museum is on the outskirts of town on the top of Lookout Mountain.

Buffalo Bill wanted to be buried on top of Lookout Mountain - he died at 70yr old January 10, 1917. . 

The grave sites of both Buffalo Bill Cody and his wife Louisa (who died the following year) as well as the museum area overlooks the natural beauty of the Great Plains and the Rockies, places where William F Cody had spent the happiest times of his life.

In front of the museum we saw some great photo opps -  Lucy is Annie Oakley

And Blanche is Buffalo Bill.

The Museum illustrates the life, times, and legend of William F. Cody. It includes exhibits about Buffalo Bill's life and the Wild West shows, as well as many Indian artifacts and firearms. The Museum & Grave attracts over 400,000 annual visitors.

The drive up to the top of Lookout mountain is a a great ride - a winding road on the edge of the mountain with spectacular views along the way.

And there is plenty of wildlife to see along the way up the mountain.

Ethan also came to visit Blanche and Lucy at the Campground in Golden.

The kids new that Smokey the Bear was important - because he says "Watch out for forest fires" always practice safety in the forest.

Having dinner on the picnic table outside was the most fun for the kids - Tyler helped set the table and Cheryl did all the grill cooking - yummy.

At the end of every day and often at the beginning of many Tyler loved climbing the mountain that was behind our camper at Dakota Ridge RV Pk.

Tyler loved mountain climbing and getting to the very top.

This is a friend that Tyler (and Lucy) made at the campground in Golden - her name is Charleigh (pronounced Charlie).

On our last camping day in Golden we treated ourselves to a tasty breakfast at Mimi's Restaurant - where they have very good muffins (and eggs too).

In downtown Golden we found a fun park where the dogs ran and Tyler found a slide that twisted round and round on the way down.

And before we left - we had to stop at the frozen yogurt shop for desert.

Blanche and Lucy love frozen yogurt - so they get a little as well. If you are ever in the area be sure to visit- Golden, Colorado is a fun little town to visit.
