A Wild Women Party in the Pines

Our very good friend Jakota hosted a wonderful party for all the fun wild women both staying here in the White Mountain area for the summer and those of us visiting for a little bit.

Jakota has a wonderful lovely home here among the pines with a great front and back porch as well as a nice big back yard.

She worked very hard to landscape her yard in a beautiful way.

Jakota's dog Lucy was a wonderful hostess for Blanche and Lucy.

Within minutes of arrival Blanche found her favorite Auntie Co's lap.

Evie & Dana enjoyed the multitude of great dishes that everyone brought.

The 'Kitchen Witches' were busy cleaning up and helping assemble the food for all to enjoy.

Ta-daaaa - ok Molly and Cheryl - great job!

15th Annua Pow Wow in the Pines

The first outing we went on here in the mountains was Pow Wow in the Pines.  The Pow Wow was held at the HonDah Casino in Pinetop, AZ. The first event was the Gourd Dancing by the elders of the various tribes that participated.

This was followed by the Grand Entry - where all the dancers marched through the arena in full dress.

There were native dancers from No. Dakota, Oklahoma, as well as from all over the state of Arizona.

All the dancers were in various age categories - from Elders (called Golden Age) to little children (called Tiny Tots).

And there were many 'Princesses' that were crowned from various nations.

The firs dancers were the Apache Dancers - they were in the Youth category.

There were many 'Golden Age' Dancers.

And women of various ages.

There were adult men Fancy Dance

And Traditional Dane

Their native dress was very colorful

The Young Women danced the Shall Dance

And Bell Dance

Many of the little girls reminded me of my grandaughter Tyler.

My favorite by far were the Tiny Tots - here a little one is dancing with his dad.

Blanche & Lucy are camping in the Az Mountains this week

As we approached 5000ft in the White Mountains north of the valley, we saw a welcome sight- Wild Women welcome (that's all of us gals). We knew we were in for a fun week when we saw this sign at Bison Landing shopping centers.

We decided to spend a week with our friends here in the mountains.  We camped our RV at Fools Hollow Lake Campground.  Blanche & Lucy found the lake on our first walk around the campground.

With Hummingbird feeders on our site we wake up to these little birds every morning.

The Hummingbirds are feeding all day long into sunset very entertaining.

Our friend Anne is working at this campground for the summer so we all gathered at her site the first night for a big BBQ with some of the mountain gals that have summer places here in ShowLow, Pinetop and Lakeside.

Cheryl was in charge of cooking the chicken which turned out great.

And what's a BBQ without corn on the cob.

My contribution was a colorful pear and peppers salad.

And for desert Watermelon was the perfect ending.

After dinner all the puppy friends went for a walk around the lake - that's Kitty holding her Corie, and Luey, Co is holding Bailey, and Blanche and Lucy are the end of the white dog group - and beautiful big Lucy a mixed breed brown gal rounded out the group.

And of course at the end of the day we ended up back at the waterfront.  Blanche & Lucy love dipping their paws in the water every day.
