Blanche & Lucy spend the day in downtown Newburyport

Blanche & Lucy started the day with a visit to our favorite local vet for their yearly check-up.  Dr Zelman at Newbury Animal Hospital has taken care of Blanche since she was a little puppy.
Downtown Newburyport is lots of fun because all the stores let Blanche and Lucy in and most have dog bowls of water right outside the shops.  A fun place to visit is Oldie's (big red barn in background) which has tons of antiques.

The town Farmer's Market is always a favorite for us because there is so many wonderful booths of fresh flowers, veggies, art and more.

This is Liz - she creates the most beautiful jewlery ....
Here is a sample of one of her beautiful creations.

This is Blanche & Lucy's favorite booth - Quinn bakes their favorite cookies and we have to pick up a bag a week from her.

Arrowhead Farm always carries my favorite cherry tomatoes
As well as yummy Heirloom tomatoes

so of course we bought some of these.

If you have little ones to buy for - one lady creates great cooler weather hats and scarves for little ones.
Our Farmer's Market even sells fresh Lobster and fish .

One Vendor with the slogan "Changing the world one bead at the time -  sold beautiful jewelry with beads that were created by women from various countries who were trying to better their lives.

I got an interesting necklace made with beads of wood, and woven paper from Africa and Thailand.

Lots of Vendors at the market made clothing for children - this one had beautiful hand made little dresses and bonnets.

And there was an abundance of fresh flowers from the area farms

These are some of the tomatoes waiting for BLT sandwiches.
After the Farmer's Market we strolled downtown to the many cute shops.

Lots of the shops carry ocean or seacoast 'themes' on their gifts which is pretty tempting for me.
And there are an abundance of these Vintage Boutiques....
which carry lots of sweet memories in the gifts they have for sale.

We had a bite to eat at "Not Your Average Joe's" restaurant with an outdoor patio which allows dogs to sit on the outside of the little fenced in area.

Blanche and Lucy stop for a Photo-opp in front of the Maritime Museum.
There are many beautiful white steepled churches in town -here one peeks out through the trees.

Blanche & Lucy stop for a rest on the park bench by the waterfront with Cheryl and auntie Cindy.

As we rested on the bench we watched the boats come in and out of their slips

Well it's officially fall here in Newburyport now....

all the trees are beginning to show their colors.

The Maples are the first to turn -

Soon the leaves will be on the ground.
Cheryl & I take one final photo with the girls in downtown Newburyport.
And we say goodnight to the waterfront as we walk back to our little rental.

Blanche & Lucy visit the Beach

In September, once the summer is officially over - Plum Island allows dogs on the beach - so of course Blanche & Lucy wanted to walk the sand and play in the surf....

Lots of Surf Fishing is enjoyed on the island - the undertow is strong and the fishermen enjoy the sport here.

Sitting on the Jetty - you can always be assured great wave action.

The following few images were taken at the end of day -

My days of 'shakin' and 'bakin' on the beach are long gone - so I enjoy coming after 4pm when most suntanners have gone home and the beach is not crowded.

September and October are my favorite months to come to the ocean -

The waves after fall storms can be very pretty.

The far end of the Island overlooks both the Bay Side and the Ocean Side

Sitting here on the point and looking at the homes we can only daydream of living here and seeing this light every day.

This is our Plum Island Lighthouse

Leaving the beach at the end of day -

Retrieved my sandals after walking barefoot for awhile.

The girls loved their time on the beach ....

Blanche & Lucy visit the Field of Honor in Newburyport

In early Sept we visited the 3rd Annual Field of Honor celebration which was hosted by the Exchange Club of Newburyport
Almost 300 American Flags waved in the breeze as a tribute dedicated to veterans, victims and emergency first responders of the 9/11 tragedy.

People were able to buy or sponsor a flag in honor and memory of someone they loved.
Our friend Paul decided to buy a flag in honor of his friend who died on September 11th.  Each Flag stood 8ft tall with the honoree's name on a tag.
Paul's friend Jay Corcoran was on Flight #175 the second flight that hit the Towers on 9/11

Here, Paul and Cheryl's sister Cindy stand with their Flag.
Though the hundreds of Flags in perfect rows brought tears to our eyes - we were happy to be with Paul & Cindy to participate personally in the tribute.
Part of the ceremony was a moving musical tribute by these Bagpipers.

The Military was present for the ceremony.
The Honor Guard presented the Colors - a ceremony that is beautiful.

The overcast day lent to the somberness of the ceremony.

This little Fireman came with his grandparents to honor the Firemen who died on September 11th.

This wonderful display of heroism stood for several days for people to enjoy.
Cheryl & I stopped by often to walk among the flags and feel the energy here.

Each day we took Blanche & Lucy for a walk among the flags, they looked different - depending on the weather, wind, time of day.
But every time we visited we felt the same rush of feelings.
Thanks Paul for buying a flag and letting us be part of the tribute.
